A film critic for a New York Newspaper and a soon-to-be father, Chip wants to be a better man following the loss of his best friend. Living Biblically commits the cardinal TV sin of wasting the outline of an refreshingly unusual premise on broad, hammy acting and stock sitcom laughs. 18% TOMATOMETER Living Biblically In this sitcom, a man copes with the unexpected death of his best friend by vowing to live his life strictly according to the requirements of the Judeo-Christian Bible. That's not easy to do in the 21st century, he finds, given that the Bible was written in a cultural context that's thousands of years old. Living Biblically is an American sitcom television series created by Patrick Walsh and produced by Johnny Galecki, with co-executive producers Andrew Haas, Spencer Medof, and director Andy Ackerman. The series was based on A. J. Jacobs' best-selling book, The Year of Living Biblically. It's very simple. I didn't laugh. The question becomes why. This is a traditional network sitcom based on a non-fiction book of how A.J. Jacobs spent a year living strictly by the bible. I don't think this high concept idea fits easily with the laugh-track infused network sitcom genre. Dealing with religion is tricky. Unlike the Bible, ‘Living Biblically’ Plays It Safe Despite the provocative concept, the CBS sitcom avoids offense as well as true humor. Alicia Cohn February 26, 2018
